A Monkey in Winter - Indochine

''A monkey in winter'' is a song from Indochina released in 2002 on the album Paradize. The song was written by the French singer Jean-Louis Murat, with the collaboration of Nicola Sirkis and also Rudy Leonetto. The lyrics are rich in themes: the authors may refer to the group itself, to the Indochina colony, to the war in Indochina or in Vietnam, but also to the book Un singe en hiver (1959) by Antoine Blondin (or even the 1962 film by Henri Verneuil, starring Jean-PaulBelmondo and Jean Gabin). The meaning of the title of the book and the song is given in the book itself: 'In China, when the great cold comes, in all the streets of the city, there are piles of lost monkeys without father or mother. We don't know whether they have come out of curiosity or fear of winter, but since all the people there believe that monkeys also have souls, they do whatever they have to do to help them be returned to their forest, to find their habits, their friends. That is why we find trains full of monkeys going up into the jungle'. The song was unfinished when released on the album. It was only afterwards that it was worked on and arranged for the single.
